first impressions

what first impression matt mcinnes gives is entirely dependent on the situation. as a marine, he toes the line between hotheaded show-off and dedicated hero type, knowing when formalities and battle plans are necessary but knowing just as well when just kind of winging it is a necessary part of living up to the n7 logo on his armour. as a vanguard, he balances muscle with lithe mobility. as a swordsman, he happily gets all up the business of an enemy he doesn't have time to pull a pistol or shotgun on. outside of battle, matt is still an expert at getting all up in the business of those around him. a naturally charismatic extrovert, he is just as likely to strike up a conversation on the basis of charming compliments as he is starting things off with an ego contest, dares and measuring and anything you can do, i can do better. a pretty stereotypical hero guy roguish grin means that both of those scenarios are usually meant with positive intent, and although he might be good at pushing buttons and winding people up, matt reads most people well enough to know when he'd be crossing a line, and so he doesn't unless he has a point to make by pushing them that far. matt can be a harmless flirt or a quietly but determinedly loyal friend, an insufferable show-off or a solemn, honour-bound marine. it's all a matter of timing.
